Prince Harry Reveals How Life in the Royal Family Resembles the Series 'Downton Abbey'

The Duke of Sussex shared memories of growing up in the royal family and compared its everyday life to the events of the iconic British TV show.

Prince Harry was a guest of honor and speaker at the 65th annual Christmas luncheon of the British-American Business Council in Santa Monica. In his speech, he talked about his childhood in the royal family and compared it to the famous British series 'Downton Abbey'.

"Sometimes people ask if growing up in the royal family was anything like 'Downton Abbey'. Yes, but only one of those worlds is filled with drama, intrigue, exquisite dinners, and marriages to Americans, while the other is a TV show," Harry admitted.

During his speech, the prince noted that this event was the "first Christmas party" he had attended "in a long time" and shared more serious thoughts about life in the U.S. as a British citizen.

"For me, being British is not about where you are physically, but about the ideas you stand for," said the Duke of Sussex. Harry added that celebrating Independence Day was an unusual experience for him: "For me, it’s a new world — celebrating independence from Great Britain, or rather, independence from my great-great-great-grandfather."
