Watches of a couple who sank on the Titanic were sold at auction for $2.33 million.

Watches of a couple who sank on the Titanic in 1912 were sold at auction for a record $2.33 million. This is according to data from the auction house Henry Aldridge and Son.

The pocket watch was removed from the body of one of the wealthiest passengers on the ship, Isidor Straus, co-owner of the American department store chain Macy's. The hands of the 750 gold watch by the brand Jules Jurgensen stopped at 2:20 — the time when the ship went under. It is known that the entrepreneur's wife, Ida, decided to give up her place in a lifeboat so as not to leave her husband alone. The story of the last moments of Isidor and Ida Straus's lives was featured in James Cameron's film Titanic.

Earlier, a unique painting by the famous artist Pablo Picasso was sold for $37 million at an auction in Paris. This work, titled Bust of a Woman in a Hat with Flowers (Dora Maar), had been in a private collection for a long time.
