How to Visit the Theater or Museum in Latvia Without Breaking the Bank (Discount List)

The end of the year is usually a bright, cheerful time, delighting Latvian audiences with interesting events – performances, concerts, exhibitions, and various shows.

However, seniors who decide to visit the Latvian National Opera, for example, will have to consider two factors:

  • First, tickets for popular "family" performances have been sold out for a long time; for instance, tickets for Tchaikovsky's ballet "The Nutcracker" are sold out for both November and December. Tickets for gala concerts in December are also sold out;

  • Second, the prices: visiting the theater with two or three people becomes a rather expensive project. For example, if you decide to go to Bizet's opera "Carmen," one ticket in the side stalls – which is by no means the most expensive seat – costs 45 euros.

What to Do? Catch Discounts!

Discounts in Theaters

It should be noted that to receive discounts in all theaters, you will need to present an identification document to the controller before the performance, based on which a discounted ticket will be sold: pensioner, student, school, disability, etc.

Latvian National Opera and Ballet

  • 15% for pensioners (discounts apply only to regular performances in the Great Hall; there are no discounts for premieres and special events)

Latvian National Theater

  • 10% for pensioners, schoolchildren, and students for one ticket.
  • 50% for a viewer in a wheelchair and their companion.

Dailes Theater

  • 30% for pensioners, people with disabilities, and students, but not for all, only for certain performances.

New Riga Theater

For the first 10 showings of new productions, discounts are not provided as a principle. However, starting from the 11th showing, they promise to offer:

  • 10% for ITIC cardholders (teachers, educators),

  • 15% for holders of the "Honored Family" card every month on a specific performance, providing a discount for 2 tickets,

  • 20% for children, schoolchildren, students (full-time), ISIC cardholders, pensioners, people with disabilities, and viewers in wheelchairs.

The theater particularly emphasizes that discounts cannot be combined.

What About Cinemas

In most cinemas, discounts for pensioners are available, but on certain days and at specific times – up to 40-50%.

Moreover, it is not necessarily required to have a pension certificate – sometimes, a document proving that you are 60 years old is sufficient.

Museum Tickets

Last year, the government of Evika Silina decided to raise the prices for visiting museums by 20–50%. Therefore, here are the updates.
