In Russia alone, about 100,000 pets become homeless every year - people simply abandon them on the streets.

In Russia, about 100,000 pets become homeless every year. The number of animals ending up on the streets was revealed by Vladimir Burmatov, the first deputy chairman of the State Duma committee on ecology, natural resources, and environmental protection, as reported by Western media.

According to him, most animals are abandoned on the streets at the end of the dacha season in garden associations.

"It's an absolutely cynical story because people throw away those they took in April or May in September or early October. The dog has lived there for six months, and now they got rid of it. That's it, the child has played enough," Burmatov stated. According to several experts, the number of such cases is only increasing.

Experts clarify that the current legislation in the Russian Federation provides for fines of up to 30,000 rubles (about 300 euros) for owners who abandon their pets; however, to hold the owner accountable, it is necessary to introduce registration and accounting for each animal. Such a practice is currently only in effect in 20 Russian regions. "And what about the others?" Burmatov exclaimed.
