It has long been noted that good visual art elevates the soul, organizes thoughts, and energizes life. Therefore, we offer three exhibitions, especially since admission to all these exhibitions is absolutely free.
The Foundation of the Canvas
The BIArt gallery at the Baltic International Academy hosted two vernissages. The first is an international exhibition of drawings about Latvia. Perhaps this is the most representative exhibition of drawings about Latvia in recent years. It features seventy original works of various themes and formats by artists from Latvia, China, the USA, Mexico, England, Italy, and Ukraine.

Among them are many well-known names, such as the late Professor Arthur Nikitin, as well as living artists Edgar Mikelson, Valery Makovoy, Hunge Zhang, Mairita Tsoneva, Paul Hilston, and Francis Vallejo. The diverse exhibition is well complemented by the work of the Italian medieval draftsman Camillo Procaccini.
As noted by the exhibition's curator, member of the Latvian Artists' Union Valentin Danilenko, he consciously included this drawing in the exhibition so that viewers and artists alike could compare the drawing styles of the past and present. This is a correct decision, believes the respected watercolorist and educator Valery Makovoy. He believes that every artist should be able to create drawings, as they are the foundation of any painting.
Unique Talent
Another exhibition is "Quiet Harbor," the first solo exhibition of the original artist Yuri Fedulov, who successfully combines painting and wood carving in his work.
This is the second meeting of the artist with the BIArt gallery. As reminded at the opening of the exhibition by academy graduate, renowned photographer, and exhibition organizer Julia Shved, while still a student, she participated in organizing the icon exhibition "Close Your Eyes and Open Your Soul," where Yuri Fedulov's wood carving received high praise. Since then, in her opinion, the themes of his works have become much more diverse, and the technique of execution has become even more refined.
Valentin Danilenko noted that Yuri's unique talent and hard work deserve recognition and promotion. Indeed, the filigree wood carving demonstrated in his works "Madonna with Child," "Prayer," and "Panorama of Riga" involuntarily evokes admiration even among the most discerning art connoisseurs.
A Man Without a Mask
Until November 9, the personal exhibition of artist Aivis Pizels "Between Instinct and Consciousness" is taking place at the Latvian Artists' Union gallery located at 11 November Embankment, 35 (in Old Riga, from where there is a magnificent view of the Daugava).
The exhibition invites viewers to look inside themselves. Aivis Pizels' monochrome paintings depict a person without a mask — at the moment when he feels uncomfortable seeing his own shadow. In turn, colorful portraits reveal the multifaceted nature of a person, where each gaze and color becomes an infinite reflection in space. Both series of works presented at the exhibition are united by the idea of life between instinct and consciousness, shadow and color, animal and human nature. Aivis' paintings are characterized by dynamic compositions, a rich color palette, and an emotional closeness to nature, especially to the landscapes of his native Latgale, which have become his main source of inspiration.
Aivis Pizels is a painter whose work predominantly features expressive landscapes and a vibrant color language. The artist studied at the Preili Art School and obtained a master's degree at the Latgale Art Academy (LAA) in the specialty of "painting." Since 2007, he has participated in exhibitions and plein airs throughout Latvia. Participation in the annual visual arts exhibition "Art Days 2023. Reflection. Memory" allowed the artist to hold a solo exhibition at the LAA gallery.
By the way, if you are interested, there will be a meeting with the author of these works on October 17 at 18:00.
