«I am not some rich lady!» Akuratere spoke about her life on pension

Many are waiting for the planned pension indexation this month; however, well-known pensioners do not hide – they have no illusions about improving their lives, writes Santa.lv.

Latvian singer and former deputy Ieva Akuratere knows what it means to be a pensioner. Regarding the upcoming pension indexation, she told the magazine Privātā Dzīve: “This increase in pension is, so to speak, just out of politeness. Everything is getting terribly expensive, and in the end, there is no real increase – at best, it just balances out.”

Akuratere acknowledged that the minimal increase in pension does not significantly ease the lives of elderly people.

“In my opinion, pensions should be raised as regularly as prices are rising,” the singer believes.

“ I don’t have a very long work record, and many musicians didn’t have any main job before. The time when I studied for the second time is also not counted in my work experience. Someone took my documents from the archive, and I can’t even prove that I studied,” Akuratere complained.

“Fortunately, I can still work; otherwise, I wouldn’t survive at all. I would have to sell my property. Of course, I only buy things on sale in the store. I try to purchase organic products, and they are certainly not cheap. So I am not some rich lady at all!”
