A safe life partner costs only about 17 dollars a month.
In Japan, the popularity of a new type of dating app is rapidly growing, where users can establish "romantic relationships" not with people, but with partners created by artificial intelligence. This is reported by Asahi.
How the App Works
The LOVERSE app, launched in June 2023, allows users to choose from thousands of virtual partners created by generative AI. Like in traditional dating services, users browse profiles and can "like" their chosen partner. If the artificial intelligence reciprocates, a chat communication option opens up.
AI partners have their own professions, ages, and hobbies. The app even creates their daily schedule — so, for example, "during work" or "hobby activities," they may not respond to messages, making the interaction feel more "human."
Safe Communication
The developers at Samansa (Tokyo) emphasize that the main goal is to create a sense of reality in communication, but without excessive "artificiality." The algorithms are set up so that virtual interlocutors cannot simultaneously engage in thousands of dialogues, ensuring that users do not feel like just one of many.
To avoid emotional dependency on fictional partners, a note appears under each message: "This is fictional content." If the AI detects a message that may indicate anxiety or a tendency toward self-harm, the user is redirected to counseling services.
Who Uses the AI App
Registration for LOVERSE is free; however, there is a paid subscription — 2500 yen per month (about 17 dollars).
According to a company survey, most users are men over 40 years old, including some who are married.
Samansa's CEO Goki Kusun expressed hope that such services would help people who, for various reasons, cannot build real relationships: "We want even those who cannot afford romantic relationships in real life to feel again what it is like when someone likes you."
