Work has begun in the UK on a new series titled "Moriarty," which will be dedicated to one of the most famous villains in world literature — Professor James Moriarty, the arch-nemesis of Sherlock Holmes. The creators of the project promise to present the character in an unexpected light and show his story from a new perspective.
The plot of the series will revolve around a professor of criminal psychology who leads a double life. To those around him, he is a respected specialist, but in reality, he is behind many high-profile crimes in northern England. When a rival gang begins to encroach on his criminal empire, Moriarty decides to cooperate with the police and becomes a consultant for criminal investigations while simultaneously hiding his own secrets.
The project is being created by Archery Pictures, Fremantle, and Operation Mincemeat. The script is being worked on by Chris Cornwell, known for the series "A Discovery of Witches," and Oliver Lansley, who participated in the creation of the project "Where's Wanda?".
Chris Taiker, founder of Archery Pictures, noted that the new series will combine elements of a tense thriller and psychological drama, and will allow for a deeper look into the personality of the famous criminal genius. Fremantle hopes that the project can grow into a large-scale franchise.
The lead role has not yet been announced, nor has the premiere date. Nevertheless, interest in the character of Moriarty has noticeably increased in recent years. He recently appeared again in the series "Young Sherlock," and previously left an impression on viewers thanks to the portrayal by Andrew Scott in the popular BBC series "Sherlock."
The new project will be another attempt to reinterpret Arthur Conan Doyle's classic story, but this time the focus will be on the most dangerous and enigmatic opponent of the famous detective.
