Actor Russell Crowe will once again play a hero opposing the Roman Empire. A quarter of a century after the release of 'Gladiator', the artist has joined the historical drama 'The Last Druid', which will begin filming on June 8, 2026, in Barcelona and the Canary Islands.
In the plot of the new film, Crowe's character is not a legendary military leader, but an elderly Celtic elder living in a remote druid settlement in the Caledonian mountains. Their peaceful life comes to an end when the Roman Emperor learns of the existence of their fortress. To save his family and people from destruction, the character must take up arms once again.
The project will be directed by William Eubank, who has previously worked on science fiction thrillers and horror films. For the director, 'The Last Druid' will be one of the largest historical projects of his career.
It is known that AGC Studios has already presented the film at several international film markets and has signed a distribution agreement with Amazon for a number of territories. The exact premiere date has not yet been disclosed.
Additionally, in 2027, Russell Crowe will appear in a new version of the cult science fiction film Highlander, where he will play the role of the mentor to the main character.
