By the way, about the original. The song "A Million Roses" with lyrics by Andrei Voznesensky was first performed in the "New Year Attraction" of the Central Television of the USSR on January 2, 1983.

Voznesensky created the text of "A Million Roses" to an already existing melody of the song "Marina Gave Life to the Girl," written by Pauls and poet Leon Briedis. The Latvian song tells about a girl to whom the mother goddess gave life but forgot to give happiness.

The song "A Million Roses" became popular not only in the Soviet Union but also beyond its borders. It is especially popular in Japan.
