The new film by Christopher Borgli, “What a Drama!”, starring Zendaya and Robert Pattinson, debuted on Rotten Tomatoes with a rating of 82%.

The film begins with a deceptively simple setup: Charlie (Robert Pattinson), the director of the British Museum, meets Emma (Zendaya), a bookstore clerk from Baton Rouge. Their relationship appears to be a typical romantic plot, but just days before the wedding, unexpected revelations shatter the characters' perceptions of each other. The film gradually shifts from a conventional romantic comedy to a dark drama, exploring the complexities of trust, identity crisis, and genuine feelings.

Critics particularly highlight the performances of Zendaya and Pattinson. Zendaya conveys a balance between vulnerability, a defensive position, and a desperate desire to be understood, while Pattinson plays Charlie with subtle emotional tension, demonstrating a slow erosion of trust. Together, they create a dynamic that feels incredibly real and painfully sincere. Supporting actors, particularly Alana Haim as Rachel, add sharpness and conflict to the story, deepening the central plot.

Christopher Borgli traditionally balances on the edge of dark drama and uncomfortable humor. The main tension arises from the emotional instability of the characters and the conflicts that emerge in the most mundane situations. The film deliberately prolongs scenes of arguments and conversations to reproduce a realistic flow of conflict, allowing viewers to feel the tension, empathize with the characters, and put themselves in their shoes.

Despite the grim mood, “What a Drama!” concludes on an unexpectedly tender and sincere note. It is a story about the fragility of love, how easily it can be shattered by unpredictable circumstances, and how difficult it is to rebuild trust after the betrayal of expectations.

The film also stars Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, Hailey Gates, Michael Abbott Jr., Sydney Lemmon, Yaya Gosselin, and Peyton Jackson.
