The local rock band "fknl" has presented a new music video for the song "Kerosene."
According to the band's leader, Daniel Meds, the composition is dedicated to the inner world of a person suffering from depression: "This is a song about a person who is tormented in solitude and unable to have healthy relationships. To feel alive, he chooses a connection with fatal women who can destroy him. The song includes the lines: 'Soak my heart in kerosene, light a cigarette, and leave me in the ashes of memories.'"
In the music video, the protagonist is shown in bed - a space that becomes both a refuge and a cage for him. Here, he is left alone with his thoughts, gradually going insane. It is also the place where he experiences love at night and emotional emptiness during the day.
The band "fknl" was founded in 2023 by Daniel, a native of Jelgava, who has aspired to music since childhood. He started with a synthesizer, later mastered the piano, cello, and singing, and in his teenage years became interested in rap and alternative rock.
At 15, Med performed with a touring ensemble, doing covers, but he aimed for a heavier sound. After school, he lived and worked abroad for a while before returning to Latvia to focus on his creativity. In the same 2023, he founded fknl. Today, the band is actively working on their debut album and reached the semifinals of the show "Ir Talants!" in 2025.
Today, Med teaches vocals to children and teenagers at a music school while continuing to develop the "fknl" project. The song "Kerosene" will be included in the band's new album, which is scheduled for release at the end of this year.
As the author notes about the new album, its lyrics are permeated with pain, a longing for freedom, and a refusal to live "quietly." The music of "fknl" reflects a complex life journey, inner resilience, and a sincere love for people and the world, with female figures remaining one of the key sources of inspiration.
