Known for her roles in "Charlie's Angels" and the cult action film "Kill Bill," actress Uma Thurman will once again appear on screens, but this time in an unexpected role. In the new action thriller "Pretty Lethal," she plays the main villain.
The film is directed by Vicky Jewison, with a screenplay by Kate Freund. The plot revolves around a group of young ballerinas and their coach who head to a prestigious dance competition in Budapest.
On the way, their bus breaks down in the middle of the forest, and the girls must seek refuge in a small hotel. Its owner turns out to be the mysterious former ballerina Devora Kasimer — Thurman's character. However, it soon becomes clear that stopping at this place was a big mistake.
After one of the incidents, the situation spirals out of control: Devora and her armed accomplices begin hunting the girls. To survive, the ballerinas must use not only their courage but also years of training — their dance skills turn into real weapons.
The film also stars Iris Apatow, Lana Condor, Millie Simmonds, Avantika Vandanapu, and Maddie Ziegler.
Initially, the project was titled Ballerina Overdrive, but later the creators decided to rename it to Pretty Lethal. The world premiere of the film took place on March 13 at the South by Southwest festival.
The film has already received its first reviews from critics. On Rotten Tomatoes, it holds a rating of about 75% positive reviews, which is considered a good indicator for an action thriller.
The film is produced by 87North Productions, known for action films such as "Bullet Train," "Nobody," and "Violent Night." Global distribution is handled by Amazon MGM Studios.
Judging by the trailer and early reviews, viewers can expect a dynamic and quite intense action film where ballet combines with a tense thriller and dark humor.
