At the age of 18, she was in an accident and suffered a triple fracture of the spine, fractures of the pelvis, ribs, and leg. Additionally, an iron handrail pierced her abdomen. After that, the artist suffered from severe pain for the rest of her life. In 1929, she married the famous artist Diego Rivera.
