Amazon MGM has announced the release dates for the film 'Rocky is Me', which tells the story of the creation of the iconic sports drama 'Rocky'. According to the announcement, the story of how Sylvester Stallone managed to play the lead role in the film based on his own script against all odds will be released in limited theaters on November 13, 2026, and will start its international release a week later, on November 20.
This strategy will allow the film to capture one of the highest-grossing weeks of the year - the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. It is symbolic that on November 20, 2026, it will be exactly 50 years since the premiere of the original boxing drama, which won three out of ten possible Academy Awards, including Best Picture.
Peter Farrelly's film, written by Peter Gamble, focuses on a turning point in the life of 29-year-old Stallone, then a little-known actor with partial facial paralysis and a speech defect. The script he wrote for 'Rocky' became his ticket to a big life: Stallone categorically refused to sell the rights unless he got the lead role. He turned down six-figure offers, and ultimately the film was made on a modest budget of less than one million dollars, going on to conquer the world in 1976, grossing over 200 million dollars and launching a successful franchise.
The role of young Stallone is played by Anthony Ippolito, with other roles performed by Steven James, AnnaSophia Robb, Matt Dillon, P.J. Byrne, Tracy Letts, and Jay Duplass.
