Director of the Dailes Theatre: The dismissed actresses asked to be let go themselves

When asked if the dismissed actresses of the Dailes Theatre, Lidia Pupure, Mirza Martinson, and Olga Drege, were offended by him, theatre director Juris Jāgarš responded to TV24 journalist Anita Daukšte: "You are also trying to [promote] this narrative." He does not understand what there is to be offended about: the actresses are not treated disrespectfully, they are not dismissed or repressed in any other way.

Jāgarš stated that all three actresses came to him last year and said, "Juritis, we are ashamed. We receive a salary, but we do not work, we perform one or two shows a month." He responded, "My dear ones, stay in the theatre a little longer! Let's see what happens next season."

At the beginning of this season, in October, the actresses came to the director again and raised the same issue, saying, "Let us go! We cannot look our colleagues in the eye, we are ashamed." "It is shameful for respected, esteemed, fantastic actresses," Jāgarš concluded.

Thus, in November, an agreement was signed under which the actresses would be freelancers: they would perform their roles, receive payment for it, but would be removed from the staff. Jāgarš spoke with Mirza Martinson right after the New Year, and an agreement was also arranged with her. Therefore, the theatre director does not understand what there is to be upset about.
