The capital of Cyprus tops the list of the best tourist destinations in Europe for 2026.
The Nicosia Tourism Board (ETAP) announced that the city ranked first in the pan-European rating of tourist destinations for 2026, earning the title of Best Cultural Capital of Europe.
The decision was made based on a comprehensive multi-stage assessment that included an analysis of statistical data, opinions from journalists specializing in culture and tourism media, as well as feedback from thousands of travelers from over 130 countries around the world.
In a statement, the Nicosia Tourism Board (ETAP) noted that such high recognition is also confirmed by Forbes magazine's ranking, which placed Nicosia first among the top ten cultural cities in Europe, naming it the main cultural destination for 2026. The document emphasizes that Nicosia has a unique cultural identity, where historical heritage, contemporary creativity, and everyday urban life are organically intertwined. The city not only carefully preserves its past but also offers a modern creative interpretation of it.
According to ETAP, the achieved result is the outcome of a consistent strategic policy and systematic work by the Tourism Board in close collaboration with the municipality of the capital of Cyprus and the organization European Best Destinations.
The recognition of Nicosia as the Best European Cultural Capital for 2026, as emphasized by the Nicosia Cultural Tourism Office, significantly enhances the city's international image, confirms its potential in the fields of culture, creative industries, and sustainable urban tourism, and opens up new opportunities for international promotion and cooperation.
