A couple of years ago, Emily Blunt dismissed the idea of a sequel to "The Devil Wears Prada" and called the original film a product of its time. But in the summer of 2025, the first photos from the set emerged. In them, the characters played by Meryl Streep and Stanley Tucci attended the Met Gala ceremony. We have gathered everything that is known about the new film.
What the first part was about
"The Devil Wears Prada" was released in 2006 and was based on the eponymous novel by Lauren Weisberger, published in 2003. The main character is journalism graduate Andrea "Andy" Sachs (Anne Hathaway), who arrives in New York and becomes the assistant to the domineering and ruthless Miranda Priestly (Streep), the editor-in-chief of the fashion magazine "Runway." Andy knows nothing about fashion. She is forced to endure her boss's whims and the cutting remarks of senior assistant Emily (Emily Blunt). But through hard work, resourcefulness, and perseverance, Andy becomes an indispensable employee.
In the finale, Andrea and Miranda go to Paris for Fashion Week. There, the heroine witnesses behind-the-scenes intrigues. Miranda betrays her longtime ally and friend — art director Nigel (Tucci), sacrificing him to maintain her position at the magazine. Meanwhile, Andy learns that Miranda's husband is filing for divorce. These events open Sachs's eyes to the true cost of power and success in the glossy world. Upon returning to New York, Andrea leaves "Runway" and takes a job at The New York Mirror.
Lauren Weisberger's novel is largely based on her own experience as the assistant to Vogue editor Anna Wintour (in June 2025, it was announced that Wintour would be leaving her position after 37 years at the helm of the legendary publication). The first part became a bestseller, and Weisberger returned to her beloved characters. In 2013, the book "Revenge Wears Prada" was released, and in 2018 — "When Life Gives You Lululemons." The events of "Revenge" partially laid the groundwork for the sequel.
The story has also made its way from the pages and screen to the theatrical stage. In 2025, a musical of the same name premiered in London. The director was three-time Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell, and the music for the show was written by Elton John.
Who is starring in the sequel
The fabulous four is back in action: Meryl Streep will once again play Miranda Priestly, Anne Hathaway will reprise her role as Andy Sachs, and we will see Emily Blunt again as Andy's main adversary, Emily, while Stanley Tucci will transform into Nigel.
The cast has been joined by Kenneth Branagh ("Tenet," "Belfast"), who will play Miranda Priestly's new husband (in the books, the character played by Streep was married three times). The film will also feature "Charlie's Angels" star Lucy Liu, Justin Theroux ("The Leftovers," "Mulholland Drive"), B.J. Novak ("The Office"), Simone Ashley ("Bridgerton"), and Pauline Chalamet ("The Sex Lives of College Girls"), sister of Timothée Chalamet. Details about their roles are still under wraps.
From the supporting cast, Tracy Thoms will return as Andy's friend Lily, and Tibor Feldman will play Irv Ravitz, head of the Elias-Clark publishing house and the very boss who tried to fire Miranda at the end of the first part.
However, Adrian Grenier, who played Nate, Andy's boyfriend, will not appear in the film. Many fans today have negative feelings towards his character, as Nate was capricious and selfish, failing to support his partner's career ambitions. The new love interest for the heroine will be played by Australian actor Patrick Brammall ("The Unlisted," "Evil").
What the sequel will be about
There is currently no officially confirmed synopsis. However, the plot of the sequel will likely focus on Miranda Priestly. Despite her impeccable reputation in the fashion world, she will have to fight for the survival of the magazine in an era of declining print media. The crisis in glossy publications requires new strategies, and for Miranda, this means the need to secure a major advertising contract with a luxury holding. The key position in this company is now held by her former assistant Emily, who is not eager to accommodate her once-despotic boss. What role Andy Sachs will play in this story remains a mystery.
The film is set to be released worldwide on April 30, 2026.
