On the director's Facebook page, a YouTube interview he gave to the Kāpēc program produced by Delfi TV has been posted.
Among other things, Hermanis mentioned that after leaving the New Riga Theatre, the actress moved to the Dailes Theatre. Despite the fact that there were no conflicts between them, Hermanis stated that there are still some ethical matters that decent people try to adhere to.
The director also announced that he will no longer collaborate with Russian figures in the arts, even with those who fled Russia.
"I just don’t trust them; my X-ray doesn’t seem to work on them. I admit it. I’m afraid," he said.
Plays by Russian authors will also not be staged in the theatre in the future. However, to show that Russian culture is a 'sheep in wolf's clothing,' the play "Black Swan" based on Dostoevsky's "The Idiot" was created after Russia's invasion of Ukraine.
Perhaps when the war is over, we can reconsider this issue, Hermanis stated. He explained his disappointment with Russians by saying that they are, after all, more or less imperialists.
