The Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine supports the introduction of sanctions against the Russian cartoon 'Masha and the Bear'. This is stated in the ministry's response to the inquiry from the head of the Verkhovna Rada Committee on Freedom of Speech, Yaroslav Yurchishin.
"I received a response from the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications of Ukraine regarding 'Masha and the Bear'. Firstly, the ministry also supports sanctions against this Russian product," he noted.
Secondly, as Yurchishin reported, based on the analysis, colleagues from the Ministry confirm that the content owner is the Russian studio 'Animaccord', which pays taxes in the Russian Federation and, despite the Cypriot offshore companies, maintains a stable connection with Russia through ownership, management, and intellectual property rights. Therefore, this company can very well be a sponsor of terrorism.
"And they receive money from Ukraine. A very important point: YouTube blocked monetization for Russian authors before the full-scale war. However, these restrictions do not apply if views come from Ukraine. 'Animaccord' has a Ukrainian-language version of 'Masha and the Bear', which is watched by Ukrainian children, and the money from the views goes to Russia. In other words, they sponsor terrorism through taxes," the deputy explained.
According to him, the response to the inquiry to the Ministry noted that it is advisable to impose sanctions on this cartoon.
"Earlier, the National Police also confirmed the connection of 'Masha and the Bear' with the Russian Federation," he added.
