Why Does a Seahorse Swim in a Vertical Position?

This may be related to the loss of the tail fin.

Seahorses inhabit coastal waters. To withstand surface waves and ensure camouflage, they have learned to cling with their tails to seaweed, corals, and other underwater objects. As a result, seahorses have lost their tail fin and have started using their dorsal fin for movement.

This fin creates thrust directed across the longitudinal axis of the body, allowing the fish to move almost in a vertical position, as the fin propels them forward. This body position is supported by the largest part of the swim bladder, located in the head.
