It is now established that many species of dinosaurs had feather coverings, which, according to modern understanding, are ancestors of birds. It is believed that initially, feathers were used for insulation and possibly for courtship rituals.

Later, some feathered dinosaurs learned to glide, using their limbs (mainly the front ones), and then some of them began to transition to active flight.

The development of such flight led to the formation of a group of animals known as birds.
