Scientists in some countries claim that gardening can help those suffering from depression...
Gardening, like walking or playing golf, helps combat depression, according to the findings of a study conducted by researchers from Anglia Ruskin University. The scientific article with these results was published in the journal Neuroscience and Biobehavioural Reviews. The researchers established a link between physical activity and mental health by conducting a statistical analysis of a number of scientific works on this topic.
During physical activity, endorphins are produced—chemicals that help improve mood and reduce stress levels. At the same time, the scientists emphasized that the activity should be moderate, as intense exercise can, on the contrary, lead to additional stress. The researchers identified gardening, playing golf, and walking as the most balanced types of activity.
Experts added that according to the results of the study, such activities reduce the risk of depression by 23%, anxiety by 26%, and also psychosis or schizophrenia by 27%.
