Due to the interlocking of fibers treated in water.
The fibers of wool have a surface covered with hardened scales. When in contact with water, especially hot water, these scales open up. During washing and spinning, they interlock like Velcro, which leads to a reduction in the size of the product. To avoid this, wool should be washed at low temperatures and with minimal mechanical action.
There is also a more radical method: at the yarn processing stage, the scales can be removed using hypochlorous acid, and then treated with a special substance — a finishing agent. Such fabric retains all the advantages of wool, as well as acquiring a sheen and not shrinking during washing.
