Easter is one of the most beloved spring holidays, which cannot be imagined without the tradition of dyeing eggs. This practice has taken root in many families. Some prefer to use ready-made dyes or stickers available in stores, while others choose natural methods, using ordinary products, which allows for a variety of shades. Onion skins are far from the only way to dye the shell.
How to Color Eggs with Hibiscus Tea
This method has become particularly popular recently, as it requires minimal time investment, and the result exceeds expectations.
You will need:
Hot water, boiled eggs, and quality hibiscus tea.
Choose eggs with white shells, as the color will be more vibrant on them, and boil them.
In a convenient container, brew several tablespoons of hibiscus tea with boiling water.
Place the boiled eggs in the tea infusion and leave them for a while: the longer the eggs stay in the hibiscus brew, the darker the shell color will become.
Dry the eggs on a napkin to allow the dye to fully absorb.
To achieve a marbled, uneven texture and striking streaks, use a simple trick. After dyeing, re-dip the dried eggs in brewed hibiscus for 1-1.5 hours, and then periodically blot them with a napkin or paper towel during drying. This process can be repeated several times, resulting in a more noticeable pattern, with the first effects of marbling appearing after the second dyeing.
Dyeing Eggs with Turmeric
Many know that the fragrant yellow spice not only adds zest to dishes but also colors them a golden-yellow hue. This property of turmeric can be used for dyeing Easter eggs.
Only quality spice, white eggs, and hot water are needed.
Pour cold water over 4 tablespoons of turmeric, mix thoroughly, add a teaspoon of vinegar, and a pinch of salt.
Place the eggs in the liquid so that the solution completely covers them. Boil the eggs in the solution and leave to cool for two hours. Soon they will acquire a beautiful yellow shade.
How to Color Eggs with Stripes Using Beets and Red Cabbage
To create an unusual pattern on the shell, use two natural dyes. For example, red cabbage will give the eggs a bluish tint, while beets will provide a delicate burgundy color.
Prepare light eggs by boiling them until cooked.
Grate one large beet on a coarse grater, pour boiling water over it, and add one teaspoon of vinegar to preserve the color.
Seal part of the shell so that the dye does not interact with it, and dip the eggs in the liquid. After 2–3 hours, dry the eggs.
Chop half a head of red cabbage, pour hot water over it, and again add a teaspoon of vinegar to preserve the color.
Place the already dyed beet eggs in the cabbage broth so that the water completely covers them, and let them sit for about two hours. Dry the finished eggs.
How to Create Golden Stripes on the Shell
Metallic shades look very striking on the shell. They add brightness and uniqueness to the traditional symbol of the holiday. Gold can be added to eggs dyed by any natural method, as well as to light shells.
Purchase a special gold dye. Dilute it according to the instructions. Alternatively, you can use gold pigment or acrylic.
Dip a stiff brush with fluffy bristles into the mixture and apply it to the shell on one or several sides.
Allow the shell to dry completely. The golden egg is ready!
Tip
Any dyeing method can also be applied to quail eggs. They will look even more impressive. Such eggs will surely be a decoration for the festive table!
