Dyeing eggs for Easter is not only a religious tradition but also an anticipation of the holiday, joy, and bright hopes. Every year, new, sometimes surprising methods of decoration emerge. This year, red wine is in trend! Is it original? Absolutely! The result of dyeing is stunning, “cosmic” eggs with a slight shimmer. Don’t believe it? Let’s give it a try!
It’s nice to realize that you don’t need to buy expensive wine for this purpose! Even the cheapest one from the store nearby will do, which will likely give the eggs a richer color.
1. Take red wine (preferably sweet or semi-sweet). You will need 1.5 liters of the drink for 10 eggs. Place the eggs in a pot.
2. Pour the red wine over the eggs and bring to a boil over medium heat. Cook for 20 minutes on low heat.
3. Turn off the heat and leave the eggs in the wine overnight (or for several hours).
4. Remove the eggs with a spoon or slotted spoon and place them on a rack to dry. You will have shiny eggs in deep burgundy or dark purple color!
Can white wine be used for dyeing? Of course! In this case, eggs with brown shells are better, as they will retain the color and give the desired shimmer. Want brighter shades? Then choose white eggs and special dyes!
1. In pots or small pans, pour white wine and add sugar (about 200 g per 1 liter). Stir. Optionally, you can add dye.
2. Place the eggs in the wine mixture, put it on the heat, bring to a boil, and cook for 15 minutes, then leave overnight.
3. Remove the eggs with a spoon or slotted spoon and place them on a rack to dry.
Will the eggs dyed this way have a wine taste? Yes, but it will be quite light. However, if you decide to dye quail eggs, the taste will be more pronounced, which is not surprising given their small size! By the way, quail eggs should be boiled separately for 5 minutes before being immersed in the wine.
In conclusion, let’s note one drawback of this dyeing method. Unfortunately, the “shimmering” eggs can stain your hands significantly, and the glitter easily falls off, which once again confirms that beauty requires sacrifices!
