What is the difference between 4K and 8K for human vision?

Some modern high-quality televisions offer 8K UHD resolution, which is twice that of the 4K standard. Is the image quality on such televisions really twice as good as on 4K?

We have the answer to this question. How much better the image will be perceived depends on two factors: the size of your television and the distance from which you are watching it. The advantages of 8K become most noticeable on larger screens when viewed from a close distance.

On a small television, the advantages will be virtually imperceptible if you are watching it from afar. The same can be said for modern 4K televisions compared to 2K (1920×1080 pixels or '1080p') — they perform better on larger screens at close viewing distances.

At any greater distance from the television or when viewing a high-resolution device, you will not be able to distinguish a dashed line from a solid one. This means that for a 60-inch screen viewed from a distance of 150 centimeters, the limit of our eye's resolution is 4K. At this distance, we can notice the difference between HD and 4K, but any increase to 8K will not be noticeable.

To distinguish 4K from 8K, you need to get very close to the television. Therefore, if you do not plan to acquire a truly large screen or watch television from a very close distance, you are unlikely to need 8K resolution. The difference compared to 4K will be minimal.
