What measures can be taken at home for burns?
- The first step is to cool the affected area of the skin, and this should be done as quickly as possible. Cold water in the form of a constantly changing compress or any product from the freezer will work, - recommends therapist Anna ZHADETSKAYA. - Cooling should continue for a long time, even while on the way to a medical facility, if such a need arises. The speed of stopping the thermal agent's impact and the effectiveness of cooling play a key role in the further course of the burn injury.
The burned area should be covered with a sterile bandage. If sterile materials are not available, a clean cotton cloth can be used.
If the burn area is significantly large (three times the size of the palm) and you doubt your ability to handle it, call an ambulance immediately, even before starting first aid.
