What alternatives to kitchen sponges for washing dishes exist?

Are there more environmentally friendly options?

Yes, for example, brushes with natural bristles made from agave, coconut, corn, or other plant fibers can be used.

Environmentalist Daria CHUMAKOVA notes: “Synthetic sponges release microplastics during use, which harm both animals and humans. Synthetic materials cannot be recycled. At the same time, brushes last long and are biodegradable.”

Sponges made from loofah — the fruit of a southern vine-like plant — are also effective. Cellulose sponges can be used as well.
