The international insurance company Expatriate Group has presented a ranking of the best countries in the world for retirement living in 2026. The study evaluated 20 countries based on five key criteria: quality of healthcare, availability of visa programs, medical insurance requirements, cost of living, and the level of integration of foreign residents. This was reported by the Daily Mail.

The Philippines took first place in the ranking. Experts noted the affordable pension visa program, low living costs, and favorable conditions for the adaptation of foreigners. To obtain a special pension visa, a deposit of about £11,000 is required.

Thailand came in second, receiving one of the highest ratings for the quality of healthcare. Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket are particularly popular among foreigners due to their developed network of international-level private clinics.

Colombia secured the third position. Analysts highlight the low cost of living and relatively simple procedure for obtaining a pension visa. According to experts, a couple can comfortably live in Medellín with a budget of £1,000 to £1,500 per month.

The most attractive European country for retirees is Portugal, which ranked fourth. Its high positions are attributed to a developed healthcare system, favorable climate, and a visa program for individuals with passive income.

Fifth place was shared by Sri Lanka and the Republic of South Africa. Both countries attract retirees with relatively low living expenses and favorable conditions for long-term residence.

The top ten also includes Malaysia, the United Arab Emirates, Mexico, Spain, Indonesia, Panama, and Qatar.

The authors of the study note that more and more people are considering the possibility of retiring abroad, paying special attention to the accessibility of healthcare, safety levels, and the cost of everyday living. At the same time, traditional destinations such as Spain and France are gradually giving way to more affordable countries in Asia and Latin America.
