What are the benefits of stachys?

Stachys is a perennial frost-resistant tuberous plant that is cultivated similarly to potatoes. It demonstrates high yields in light and fertile soils.

The flowers have a pinkish-purple hue, and the leaves resemble those of mint or dead-nettle. The tubers, ranging from 2.5 to 3 cm in length and weighing from 1 to 7 g, are shell-shaped and are used as a dietary and medicinal product. They are especially valuable for people with diabetes and are also used to lower blood pressure and blood sugar levels, as well as for tuberculosis and hypertension.

The tubers can be boiled in salted water or steamed for 5-7 minutes, after which they are dressed with oil, sour cream, or mayonnaise and sprinkled with dill or parsley. They are also used in salads, pickled, and marinated. At a temperature of 2-3 °C, the tubers store well.

The planting of tubers is carried out from May 10 to 15, with a spacing of 60 cm between plants and 25 cm between holes, at a depth of 5-6 cm.

Harvesting is done at the end of September.
