What is the vocabulary size of a three-year-old child?

The opinion of pediatrician Nadezhda Dubatovka.

According to the specialist, it is possible to discuss the norms and pathologies of speech development for a long time, but without a thorough examination of the child, it is difficult to draw any conclusions. Therefore, it is recommended to consult several doctors and consider their opinions to dispel any doubts. Despite the individuality of each child, there are certain age norms for speech development that should be adhered to.

Stages of speech development:

2-3 months - the child produces cooing sounds such as “a”, “u”, “y”;
4-6 months - the baby begins to make exclamatory sounds and responds with joyful sounds to the faces of relatives;
6-9 months - babbling appears, the child repeats the same syllables (“ma-ma-ma”, “ba-ba-ba”, “gu-gu-gu”);
9-11 months - the baby starts to imitate the sounds of adult speech;
11-14 months - the first meaningful words appear: “mama”, “papa”, “baba”, “daddy” (from 8 to 14 words);
by 2 years, the child's vocabulary already contains 100-200 words, and he can form sentences of 2-3 words;
by 3 years, the child knows up to 1000 words and can usually engage in dialogue.
