Today, almost every kitchen has a faithful assistant — the microwave oven. Its appearance was a chance discovery, but for several decades, this device has significantly simplified the daily lives of families around the world.
The creator of the microwave oven is American engineer Percy Spencer. In the 1940s, he was involved in the development of radar equipment and accidentally noticed an amazing side effect of the emitter he used in his experiments.
The scientist observed that objects near the equipment were heating up. He was particularly struck by how the properties of food changed. This observation inspired the researcher to create the microwave oven. He patented the device and received the corresponding document on December 6, 1945. However, it took a long time before the microwave ovens we are familiar with appeared. The first models of ovens were 175 centimeters tall and weighed 340 kilograms.
The production of the first microwave ovens began in 1947. At that time, they were used in manufacturing enterprises for rapid defrosting of products on an industrial scale.
Household microwave ovens began to be produced by the Japanese company Sharp, which launched production in 1962.
Since the appearance of household microwave ovens, their use has been accompanied by myths about the harmful effects of radiation on the structure of water and food, as well as the negative impact of such products on human health. However, no serious scientific research in recent decades has confirmed these theories.
Experts recommend following the guidelines of the World Health Organization and using microwave ovens strictly according to the instructions, checking the device's functionality, and reheating food in ceramic or glass containers.
With this approach, the microwave oven will significantly simplify life and become a reliable assistant in the kitchen.
