Don't Miss the Main Supermoon of 2025: When and Where to Watch

In early November, residents of Earth will be able to witness the most impressive supermoon of 2025. The full Moon will be at its minimum distance from our planet, making it appear particularly large and bright.

A supermoon is the coincidence of two phenomena — a full moon and the Moon passing through perigee, which is the point in its orbit closest to Earth. On such days, Earth's satellite appears 14% larger and shines about a third brighter than usual, although this difference is hard to notice with the naked eye.

The Moon's orbit is elliptical, and the distance between it and Earth constantly changes: from 406,700 km at apogee to 356,410 km at perigee. On average, it is about 384,400 km. If a full moon occurs when the distance decreases to less than 362,000 km, it is referred to as a supermoon.

In 2025, there will be three such events: October 7, November 5, and December 5. However, the November supermoon will be the main event — this time the Moon will come closest to Earth, at a distance of 356,832 km. The difference between the moment of full moon and reaching perigee will be only 9 hours and 10 minutes — a rare coincidence that enhances the effect: the full moon will occur on November 5 at 15:20 (Moscow time), and perigee will be on November 6, 2025, at 0:30.

The phenomenon is best observed in the evening hours of November 5.

Astronomers advise preparing cameras and telescopes: the supermoon on November 5 will be the most spectacular moment of the year for night sky enthusiasts.
