On October 9, Christians honor the evangelist and apostle John the Theologian, who remained in Jerusalem after the departure of Jesus Christ, taking care of the Virgin Mary.
There are many legends about his life, but it is known that he is the only one of the twelve apostles who died a natural death.
After the death of the Virgin Mary, he went to preach, facing exile and persecution. He spent several years before his death in Ephesus, where he wrote one of the four Gospels. He is also the author of the "Apocalypse" — the concluding part of the New Testament.
Our ancestors considered John to be the patron of long journeys, turning to him for help on the road.
Weather Omens
Rain on this day — rainy weather will last for another 3 weeks. Snow on this day — winter will begin on Michaelmas (November 21). Rain mixed with snow on this day — expect 3 strong thaws in January. A pink sunset — indicates winds. A hazy sky during sunset — predicts bad weather. Grouse on the treetops — indicates clear weather. Bright stars herald good weather, dim ones — rain and snow. Falling leaves predict a drop in temperature and an approaching winter. If the rooks have flown away — snow will fall.
