Doctor calls croissants for breakfast healthy

Surgeon: croissants have unjustly made it onto the list of harmful products.

Surgeon of the National Health Service of the United Kingdom Karan Rajan is convinced that croissants for breakfast are not harmful to health, but, on the contrary, are beneficial. His opinion is reported by the Daily Mirror.

Rajan stated that breakfast is considered the most important meal of the day. Therefore, proponents of a healthy lifestyle try to eat the healthiest food in the morning and exclude harmful foods. According to him, croissants have unjustly made it onto the list of unacceptable products.

"My argument in defense of pastries is that they are beneficial for the bacteria living in the gut," the doctor noted the benefits of croissants. He clarified that he means puff pastry made with yeast that slowly reaches readiness. Rajan explained that this method of preparation involves fermentation and the breakdown of gluten and starch. "This makes the finished product easier to digest compared to bread," the doctor explained.

The surgeon added that croissants should be eaten cooled. According to him, in this case, resistant starch is formed in them, which is not digested in the small intestine but reaches the large intestine. There, it serves as food for bacteria and promotes the production of fatty acids that are beneficial for the intestinal mucosa.
