A Supermoon is Expected Tomorrow: What Is It?

Tomorrow, Latvians and all residents of Earth will be able to see a supermoon. This phenomenon occurs when the Moon is at its closest point to the center of the Earth.

Throughout October, the Moon will change its distance from the Earth: on October 7, we will witness a supermoon, with the Moon being at its closest distance to Earth — less than 360,000 km. This is almost 14 percent less than during a micromoon, and the brightness of the Moon compared to the micromoon will be nearly 30 percent higher.

On October 8, the Moon will move away from the planet to a distance of up to 360,000 km, and by October 23, Earth's natural satellite will already be at a distance of 406,000 km.
