Adding a tablespoon of olive oil to the daily diet may reduce the risk of developing dementia.
Scientists from Harvard have found that olive oil helps maintain mental health. In a 28-year study, they tracked the health of 92,000 people who regularly consumed at least seven grams of olive oil per day. The results showed that the risk of premature death due to dementia was reduced by 28%.
Anne-Julie Tessier, one of the authors of the study, recommends using olive oil instead of margarine or mayonnaise. It is beneficial not only for the heart but also for the brain.
The researchers also noted that their findings pertain only to olive oil; other types of oils did not demonstrate similar results.
