Irreversible Effect: New Negative Impact of Fast Food

Regular consumption of sweets and fatty foods, including pastries and fast food, can lead to memory deterioration in adolescents, as confirmed by scientists from the USA. Moreover, improving the situation through healthy eating will not be possible.

Numerous studies confirm the harmfulness of a diet based on fast food. One such study shows that this type of nutrition negatively affects both the physical and mental health of individuals.

According to data, such a diet increases the risk of developing depression, anxiety, and other mental disorders. Additionally, scientists from France found that sweets and cookies for breakfast, which contain a large amount of refined carbohydrates, make people less attractive to the opposite sex, regardless of their weight, reports health.24tv.

New Fast Food Research

Researchers from the University of Southern California in Los Angeles (USA) found that a high intake of sweet and fatty foods can have a long-term impact on memory. Rodents that consumed unhealthy food at a young age exhibited memory problems that did not fade over time.

It is believed that individuals with Alzheimer's disease have decreased levels of the neurotransmitter acetylcholine in the brain, which is necessary for memory, learning, attention, arousal, and motor activity. Scientists studied the effect of diet on acetylcholine levels in rats that were fed sweet and fatty foods compared to a control group, and then conducted a series of memory tests.

Fast Food and Its Impact on Memory

The rodents were offered to explore new objects in various locations. After a few days, the animals were provided with a similar environment, adding one new item. The rodents on an unhealthy diet could not remember what and where they had already seen, while the control group rats recognized familiar objects.

Scientists warn that such nutrition in youth can have serious consequences that will be extremely difficult to eliminate. This period of life plays a key role in brain development, and important biological processes occur. If memory mechanisms are disrupted due to unhealthy eating in childhood, it will be much harder to cope with them later in life than if it occurred in adulthood.

According to researchers, the effects of fast food will persist even if one switches to a balanced diet. Without medical intervention, memory functions will not recover.
