How to Increase Water Intake

Many of us strive to drink more water. We set this as a New Year’s resolution or a goal for Monday. We even buy stylish water bottles made of stainless steel, glass, or safe plastic. However, despite all efforts, we often forget the need to drink water.

Set a Goal

This may seem excessive, and you might think, “I’ve tried this before.” But it’s important to do it a little differently: a key point in achieving your goal is tracking the amount of water you drink. Start with a large container, whether it’s a pitcher or a bottle. Take it with you and keep it filled with water. Let it sit on your desk, kitchen table, or in the passenger seat of your car. The main thing is to have a reminder throughout the day.

Add Flavor

Infusing water is a great way to create a tasty drink that retains all the benefits of regular water! Adding berries, herbs (such as mint, rosemary, or basil), cucumbers, citrus fruits, or melon can help diversify your water. Additionally, infused water will add antioxidants and vitamins/minerals depending on the ingredients you choose.

Keep Water Cold

Indeed, cold water is usually more appealing than warm. Adding ice to your water will create a refreshing drink that will beckon you: “Drink me right now!” Especially in the summer heat, water will be the perfect way to cool down.

Use a Straw

Surprisingly, many people drink more water when using a straw. To stay environmentally conscious, choose reusable cups and straws. And if you’re concerned about wrinkles, remember that hydration helps keep your skin toned.

Keep Water Handy

Always have water with you. Take it in the car, to work, to meetings, to the gym, or to the mall — everywhere. Consider your water bottle as part of your outfit (bonus points if it matches your attire). Having water on hand will help eliminate excuses not to drink. You might be surprised at how often you feel thirsty.

Use an App

Want to drink more water? There are apps for that. Many companies have developed apps that help track water intake.

Set Reminders

Most of us actively use virtual calendars. Set reminders to drink water throughout the day, such as every hour. The more effort it takes to stop and drink water, the less likely you are to stick to the routine. So prepare in advance: keep a glass filled and wait for your phone to remind you to drink.

If you don’t enjoy drinking water right now, it all comes down to changing habits. Setting yourself up for success is key to forming a new habit.
