The expert has prepared a useful list
The thyroid gland influences most processes in our body, so maintaining its normal functioning is one of our key tasks. Nutrition plays an important role in this, and many city dwellers face serious difficulties with it, reports WomanHit. We spoke with nutritionist Evgenia Zmirenko, who shared a list of products necessary for everyone. By including them in your diet, you can avoid thyroid problems for many years.
What substances are necessary for the proper functioning of the thyroid gland
According to our expert, iodine, selenium, and the amino acid tyrosine are essential for the optimal functioning of the thyroid gland, as these components are necessary for synthesizing important hormones. Therefore, the following products must be included in the diet:
Sea fish. To provide the body with essential nutrients, it is important to regularly consume: cod, pollock, herring, and salmon.
Seafood. The leaders in iodine content are: squid, shrimp, and mussels. “In addition, they also contain such nutrients as vitamin B12, selenium, and phosphorus,” notes Evgenia.
Seaweed. “This includes kelp, nori, kombu, and chuka,” explains the nutritionist. These products provide a high concentration of iodine and are an accessible source of vitamins and minerals.
Persimmon. One or two fruits contain the daily norm of iodine for an adult. Besides iodine, persimmons are rich in magnesium, sodium, iron, and vitamins A, C, and P. However, it is important not to overdo it, as excessive consumption of persimmons can negatively affect gastrointestinal function.
Nuts. Pay attention to hazelnuts, almonds, pine nuts, and walnuts, as they are particularly rich in iodine and selenium. “They contain vitamins A, E, K, and other beneficial substances necessary for the health of your thyroid gland,” adds Evgenia.
Eggs. “Keep in mind that one egg contains 16% of the daily iodine intake,” says the nutritionist. They are also rich in protein, healthy fats, vitamins, and minerals.
Potatoes. There are 60 mcg of iodine in 100 grams of potatoes, but it is better to consume baked potatoes, as they retain all the beneficial substances. This vegetable is also rich in potassium, phosphorus, magnesium, calcium, and zinc.
