Despite the many beneficial properties of tangerines, such as strengthening the immune system, improving intestinal function, high vitamin C content, and reducing anxiety, this citrus has a number of contraindications. This was reported by nutritionist Artem Tuzhikov.
According to the expert, any product can be dangerous when consumed excessively: an excess of energy can lead to fat accumulation, which in turn causes obesity and various diseases.
Tuzhikov emphasizes that tangerines are contraindicated in cases of obesity, kidney diseases, ulcers, and increased acidity.
“Tangerines should be avoided in case of gastrointestinal problems, as citrus fruits can increase acidity,” noted the nutritionist.
It is also not recommended to overindulge in the fruit with the following diseases:
enteritis;
colitis;
gastritis.
“The fruit acid in these citrus fruits can irritate the mucous membrane of the intestines and stomach. Tangerines are contraindicated for people with diabetes,” explained Tuzhikov.
The expert added that due to their high fiber content, tangerines can cause bloating and flatulence, and overeating may lead to pseudo-allergic reactions.
Furthermore, the nutritionist warned that children under one year old and even up to three years old should be given citrus fruits with special caution. It is necessary to closely monitor the body's reactions, and if allergy symptoms (rash, swelling of the mouth) appear, one should immediately stop giving the fruit and consult a doctor.
