A Specialist Named a Berry That Helps Reduce Anxiety

Excessive anxiety, nervous tension, and stress may indicate the presence of an anxiety disorder. Therapist and mental health expert Sophie Kress believes that adding just one berry to the diet can help better manage anxious states.

Sophie Kress emphasizes that while medications can alleviate the symptoms of anxiety disorders, there is a growing interest in natural products that also help manage stress.

“One of the surprising berries that aid in the fight against anxiety is dates. These fruits are rich in nutrients. For example, magnesium helps relax the nervous system and muscles and plays a key role in regulating neurotransmitters that transmit signals from the body to the brain. Dates cannot replace prescribed medications, but they can be a useful addition to primary treatment,” notes the therapist.

The doctor highlights that magnesium significantly impacts stress reduction and helps control melatonin levels, which regulate sleep cycles and aid in combating anxiety, reports SHE FINDS.

Sophie Kress also points out that dates contain flavonoids, carotenoids, and phenolic acid. Moreover, these fruits may help combat oxidative stress, which arises from a lack of antioxidants and can be a cause of certain mental disorders.

“Researchers from Sultan Qaboos University in Oman conducted an experiment on mice by adding dates to their diet. Soon they noticed improvements in memory and coordination in the rodents. Scientists suggest that dates may be beneficial for people with Alzheimer's disease by slowing the progression of this ailment,” says Dr. Kress.

She recommends incorporating dates into a balanced diet but warns against relying solely on them as the only remedy for anxiety disorders.
