With the arrival of November, many begin to feel a decline in strength. Short days, lack of sunlight, and a busy work schedule all weaken the immune system.
Endocrinologist and nutritionist Daria Haikina shared which products can help support the body ahead of winter.
Sauerkraut — the main helper
Of all the autumn superfoods, sauerkraut is considered the best. It is rich in vitamin C and probiotics, which the vegetable acquires during the natural fermentation process. The intestinal microflora is directly linked to immune protection.
From pear to quince
According to Daria Haikina, at the end of autumn, it is beneficial to add more "late" seasonal fruits to the diet, such as quince, pear, and pomegranate:
- Quince is rich in pectin and B vitamins, helps liver function, and improves metabolism;
- Pear supports intestinal function and helps eliminate toxins from the body;
- Pomegranate is rich in antioxidants and aids in adapting to stress and temperature fluctuations.
Antioxidants and omega-3s in action
Even frozen berries — blueberries, cranberries, raspberries — retain most of their vitamins and antioxidants. They can be added to yogurts, cereals, and smoothies.
Also, for heart and vascular health, it is important not to forget about sources of omega-3 fatty acids: fish (especially mackerel, sardines, and salmon), walnuts, and flaxseed oil.
