Many may think that mold on bread is just an unpleasant but not dangerous defect, especially considering that penicillin is derived from mold. However, in reality, consuming such a product is associated with health risks.

Mold on bread often produces toxic mycotoxins that can cause food poisoning, allergic reactions, or even serious disruptions in the body's functions, especially in people with weakened immune systems. Although swallowing a small amount of mold does not always lead to severe consequences, consuming moldy bread is categorically not recommended.

It is important to remember that mold can penetrate much deeper than what is visible to the eye, so removing visible green or blue spots does not make the product safe — it is better to throw away the entire loaf. Additionally, mold alters the taste and smell of bread, making it bitter and musty.

To prevent mold from appearing, store bread in a cool and dry place. At the slightest signs of spoilage, the product should be discarded.
