On Monday, November 3, a part of the Conti Tower, which is currently under reconstruction, collapsed in the Italian capital Rome. This was reported by Il Messaggero.
As a result of the incident, four people were injured, one of whom is in serious condition. Two received medical assistance on the spot.
Currently, an operation is underway to rescue a man trapped under the rubble. It is reported that he is alive and responding to signals from rescuers.
Police have cordoned off the area where the collapse occurred, and pedestrian and vehicle traffic has been prohibited to facilitate the work of firefighters and emergency services.
An investigation into the circumstances of the collapse will be conducted jointly with the labor inspection and local sanitary service.
Authorities are checking the load-bearing structures to assess the integrity of the remaining part of the building and to develop a safety and restoration plan.
The Conti Tower is a medieval residential tower of the aristocratic Conti family in Rome. The construction of the tower took place in the 850s (in the ninth century). One of the exedras of the ancient Temple of Peace was used as its foundation.
