How to Deliciously Fry Sweet Potato

Have you ever cooked fried sweet potato? If not, try making it at least as a culinary experiment. Moreover, sweet potato is very healthy!

The orange color of the fruit clearly indicates a high amount of carotenoids, among which lutein is particularly abundant. According to modern scientists, it can not only prevent vision impairment but also treat it.

What does this root vegetable taste like? It has a sweet flavor, reminiscent of both pumpkin and carrot. However, the texture of sweet potato flesh is almost the same as that of potato, only it does not contain starch. Try making fried sweet potato using our recipe, and it may become a part of your family menu.

INGREDIENTS FOR 4 SERVINGS

Sweet potato (batat) 1 kg Refined vegetable oil 4 tbsp. Smoked paprika 1 tsp. Dried garlic 1 tsp. Turmeric 1 tsp. Parsley 2 sprigs Salt to taste Ground black pepper to taste

RECIPE PREPARATION

Step 1

Prepare the sweet potato. You can leave the skin on (it’s healthier!), just wash it thoroughly with a brush. But if this option does not suit you, take the traditional route.

Step 2

Next, cut the sweet potato. Slice each tuber in half lengthwise, and then into large pieces. Although sweet potato is firmer than potato, if you make the slices too thin, they will fall apart when frying.

Step 3

Mix the paprika, garlic, and turmeric. Coat the sweet potato in the resulting aromatic mixture. Place a frying pan with a diameter of 26–28 cm over medium heat. Pour in the oil and heat it up well.

Step 4

Add the sliced sweet potato to the pan with oil. Fry, stirring frequently, for about 20 minutes. The slices should brown nicely. Season the sweet potato with salt and pepper.

Step 5

Tear off the thin sprigs with leaves from the parsley stems. Chop finely. Arrange the fried sweet potato on serving plates. Sprinkle with chopped herbs. Serve immediately.

BY THE WAY

Fried sweet potato can be served as a standalone dish, complemented with natural yogurt, or as a side dish to meat or poultry, whether fried or baked.
