A resident of the Ropaži region unexpectedly discovered a multi-ton truck in her yard on an ordinary weekday. According to the preliminary version from the police, the driver fell ill at the wheel, after which the vehicle left the road, crossed a field, and crashed into private property.
The accident occurred on Tuesday around noon in the village of Urgas near Ropaži. A white truck left the roadway for an as yet undetermined reason, crossed a meadow, knocked down a tree, and stopped only in the yard of a private house.
For the homeowner, Lyudmila, the incident was a complete surprise.
“I was in the kitchen and heard a noise. Then a friend called and said, 'Look out the window, there’s a vehicle in your yard.' At first, I didn’t even understand what she was talking about,” the woman told the Degpunktā program (TV3).
When she went outside, a random witness to the incident was already near the truck. Both women tried to understand the condition of the driver. According to them, the man did not respond for a long time and looked as if he had lost consciousness.
“At first, it seemed like he was just sleeping. We couldn’t understand what had happened,” said the homeowner’s granddaughter, Nikola.
Only after some time did the driver come to, open the cabin door, and show signs of life.
According to the State Police, no other vehicles were involved in the accident. A preliminary version is being considered regarding a sudden deterioration in the driver’s health.
After the man regained consciousness, he could only say that he remembered nothing about what had happened. Medical personnel provided assistance on the spot, after which he was taken to the hospital for further examination.
For the family of the homeowners, the incident could have ended much more seriously. Lyudmila recounts that shortly before the accident, she was planning to mow the grass exactly in the spot where the truck ultimately crashed, but by a stroke of luck, she postponed the work.
There was also material damage. The truck damaged the fence around the property, which will now need to be repaired. This particularly worries the homeowner’s relatives, as a dog roams freely on the property and the fencing needs to be restored as soon as possible.
The police reported that the property owners have the right to seek compensation for the damages incurred. The truck was evacuated from the private property on the same day.
For the residents of the house, the incident ended without physical injuries; however, the unexpected appearance of a multi-ton vehicle in their yard will be remembered for a long time as one of the most unusual and alarming days of their lives.
