A fire in a private house in the Salaspils region rendered the second floor uninhabitable and caused damage to the rest of the building. The owners are now awaiting the results of the examination and the insurance company's decision on compensation for damages.

The fire broke out around 1:30 PM in one of the private houses in the area of garden plots and private development. The owner of the house was the first to notice the flames.

According to him, the fire started on the second floor and spread very quickly. Realizing that he would not be able to handle the flames on his own, the man called the rescuers and, together with a teenager who was at home, tried to contain the fire until their arrival.

"Everything was already burning very intensely. We were extinguishing it with water and fire extinguishers. When ours ran out, the neighbors brought theirs. We managed to slow down the spread of the fire a bit, so it did not spread to other rooms," the homeowner told the Degpunktā program (TV3).

During the firefighting efforts, the man inhaled smoke. After the emergency services arrived, he needed medical assistance and was taken to the hospital.

Three units of the State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at the scene. The fire was extinguished in about two hours.

According to the SFRS, by the time the rescuers arrived, household items were burning in the bedroom on the second floor, covering an area of about 10 square meters. Two people evacuated from the building on their own, one of whom was injured.

Although the fire was localized within one room, the consequences were serious. The second floor was severely damaged by fire and soot, and water damage during the extinguishing affected the rooms on the first floor as well.

The homeowner admitted that living on the second floor is now impossible. Damaged items from the fire are already piled up in the yard, and one of the rooms has practically burned down completely.

One important factor for the family was the presence of property insurance. The owners hope that the insurance company will help cover a significant portion of the costs for restoring the house.

The exact cause of the fire has not yet been determined. Experts will need to establish it. Among the possible versions being considered is a malfunction of an electrical device that may have been charging at the time the fire broke out.

Such cases regularly remind us of the risks associated with leaving electrical appliances and chargers unattended, especially in residential areas.

Now the future of the house will depend on the results of the examination and the amount of insurance compensation.
