This week in Rezekne, Rezekne Municipality, and Madona Municipality, the police discovered two marijuana plantations during ten searches, detained four individuals, and seized a large amount of drugs as well as weapons, the Public Relations Department of the State Police reported.
The operation was organized by the Bureau of Criminal Police of the Latgale Regional Department of the State Police in cooperation with the special task battalion.
On June 3, three men born in 1975, 1999, and 1977 were detained, and on June 4, another person who was part of the criminal group engaged in the illegal drug trade was arrested.
During the search, the police seized 835 marijuana seedlings, about 24 kilograms of dried marijuana, and specialized equipment for its cultivation. Additionally, 13 firearms, about 100 of their components, and cash amounting to 3,145 euros, which will be seized, were confiscated.
The State Police has initiated a criminal process and plans to request the court to impose a preventive measure related to deprivation of liberty on the two detained individuals.
Criminal liability is provided for two articles of the Criminal Law - for the illegal cultivation of plants and for the illegal manufacture, storage, and transportation of narcotic substances in a group in large quantities.
